The Funk family has been making pure maple sirup from the trees of Funks Grove for six generations, since the days before Route 66 was established. But like many other businesses, Funks Grove Pure Maple Sirup grew to depend on the steady stream of customers that Route 66 brought to its door. Today, the sirup farm at Funks Grove remains a favorite stop among Route 66 travelers. Pure maple sirup ("sirup" is the traditional spelling used for the product that results from the boiling down of sap, without the addition of extra sugar) has no added ingredients or preservatives—just maple sap boiled down to remove water until it becomes sirup. Our pure maple sugar, candy, and cream also have no added ingredients but are simply the result of further boiling, cooling, and stirring of the maple sirup to different degrees. In 2020, the shop added a new item: maple ice cream made from whole cream and maple sirup by Kirby Family Creamery, which is operated by Lisa Kirby, a Funk family member who works in the sirup shop.
